The Cards Dealt in Seven Card Stud
Seven Card Stud was once the most popular poker game variant being played in casinos and cardrooms. It has recently been replaced by Texas Hold'em as the world's favorite poker variant. Despite the fact that it is no longer the most popular poker game being played, it is still featured in most casinos and public card-playing establishments.
In a game of Seven Card Stud, a total of seven cards are dealt to each player in a certain order of "streets." Some of these cards will be given to each player face-up and visible to all of the other players, and some will be dealt out face-down. Until the showdown, no player is required to show their face-down cards. Three face-down cards and four face-up cards are dealt to each player, and any player who manages to make it to the showdown has to construct a five-card hand out of the seven cards that have been dealt to them, while also keeping in mind that the other players can also see their face-up cards.
In the first deal, three cards are given to each player; two face-down, and one face-up. The remaining four cards are dealt out one at a time after the initial deal. Between each deal, there is a round of betting, where each player has to at least match the bet that had been made by the player before them. If a player chooses not to make any further bets for that round, then that player can be said to have folded, and they are no longer in contention for the pot.
After the first round of betting has been completed -a betting round is considered complete when all of the players have put the same amount of money into the pot- there is usually a burn card, which the dealer disposes of before the next deal. Before the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh streets, there is a burn card. This means that there are a total of four burn cards. The seventh card is a face-down card, such that the sequence of cards dealt out is, "two down, four up, one down."
In a normal Seven Card Stud game, there are a total of five betting rounds. However, in some casinos and public cardrooms, the first deal in the featured Seven Card Stud game contains four cards instead of three, so that there would be one less betting round. This means that in some tables in some card playing establishments, the initial deal contains two upcards and two face-down cards.
