One of the worst mistakes that beginners in poker are discarding good cash after a bad beat while trying to defend your blinds. No poker player wants to wager without any prizes in return and when playing outside of the blinds, and wagering before you even get a glimpse of your hand that is what you will be doing but remember as your cash is put in the money pot, it is longer the property of the winner.

Because the small or minimal blind wager is not that big, the first monetary contribution in the cash pot should not be a big part of your decision on whether to play or not and you should review your cards and the table before making a decision.

Playing from the large blind is the worst position and you need to be sure that you have a strong hand to make the pre-flop worth your while. A lot of gamblers consider in the odds in the cash pot and decided that their additional minimal wager makes the call a worthwhile play but it is worth less because of your bad position in the table.

There are four types of situations that you can defend your blinds and the good way to start is to disregard the money you have already put down and just start anew and study your hand and not entertain the thought of getting back your blind wager chips.

Some of the tips that you can use in a holdem game are 1st, play decisively. If you are given a big card pair then defending the blinds is a good decision and if you can convince others that you are defending from a steel, much better.

2nd, see if there is someone raising or not. Your end position in the gaming table can actually help you during the pre-flop wager and if you see a lot of players’ caller and there is no one raising, you can call during the flop.

3rd, only careless players are raising constantly. If you found yourself participating in a loose table and some poker maniacs are pushing the ante up, then you can consider playing and if you have a good hand you might want to join the ongoing action.

But if a conservative player has made an immediate raise, then you better have a good hand if you want to stay in the game. 4th, beware of the player that is attempting to steal the blind. If you are playing conservatively from the blinds all throughout the game, players will likely attempt to steal the blind and the cash pot.

If everyone in the game calls, the position of the dealer can raise in order to get cash pot, but if you are playing tight, you can usually turn this situation with a strong play.

Raise before the flop and during the flop and you will likely win the pot. Last but not the least is that you have to know when the right time to fold is. There are no guarantees in poker but by knowing this concept will help you go a long way.
